Vegan Food Review: Field Roast Breakfast Sandwich

Field Roast Classic Style Sausage, Egg & Cheese Plant-based Breakfast Sandwich

Would I buy it again? No.

The good: In my opinion Field Roast has the best breakfast sausage I’ve tried. It has great texture and taste and most of all is the correct size (large) to fit nicely in a bagel or English muffin. They did a fantastic job on this. The “egg”; Just Folded Egg is your only option. It is simply the best vegan egg on the market. It has no challengers as far as I am concerned.

The bad: It’s the cheese. That is where this falls apart. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been vegan for 2 years, I know good plan-based cheese is hard to find, but this stuff just has a bad flavor that ruins the rest of the sandwich. I think they would be better leaving it off. The English muffin bun did get hard in the microwave, that could have been user error, but in my experience it happens to most of these breakfast sandwiches when microwaved. So no points off for that.

Summary: I would not buy this again, but I would buy all the components separately save the cheese. Field Roast makes a delicious breakfast sausage and Just Folded Egg does not disappoint. Buy your favorite plant-based cheese (if at all) and make your own.

Vegan Oatmeal Bake

Adapted from My Little Pony Baking Book by Christi Johnstone. Emily and Jason veganized it.

9 Servings


  • 2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 oat milk
  • 1/4 real maple syrup
  • 1 flax egg (1 tbsp flax meal, 3 tbsp water)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups mixed berries, washed, dried and cut


  1. Preheat oven to 375 F. Spray 2- quart baking pan with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.
  2. Make flax egg, mix and set aside.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine oats, baking powder and salt. Mix well to combine.
  4. Add oat milk, syrup, flax egg, and vanilla. Mix well to combine. Gently stir in berries.
  5. Pour mixture into prepared baking pan and bake 20-25 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes prior to serving. If desired serve in a bowl and top individual servings with oat milk.

Food Review | Gardein Shakshuka Breakfast Bowl

Vegan Breakfast Bowl

Here we go again. Another breakfast bowel from Gardein. I have to say after the steak and eggs breakfast bowl I wasn’t super excited to try another bowl. This one was better though, maybe because of the lack of that green sauce. This one instead had a red sauce, and something that was cheesy, but not cheese as this is a vegan meal. The meal was ready in only 6 minutes.

Taste better than it looks

I liked the heat in the dish, it wasn’t too much but just right for me. And the meat had the right texture and sponginess. I had to look up Shakshuka it “is a delicious combination of eggs, tomatoes, and spices popular across the Middle East and North Africa” according to google. That is a pretty good description of this meal. This one I might try again. However, keep in mind if it comes in a box, it’s not as good for you as simpler overnight oatmeal.

Lots of ingredients there!

Vegan Ice Cream Review | Ben & Jerry’s P.B. & Cookies

OMG So good!

I had this for the first time tonight. It came from a Whole Foods order. This is my new favorite ice cream! And it’s vegan! No, it’s not healthy, but it is vegan and so yummy. My favorite ice cream flavor is cookies and cream and this adds another of my favorites, peanut butter. I only have one problem with this, I have to share it with the kids. They loved it too. Give this a try. Comfort food is an amazing thing when times are tough.
